I recevied an e-mail from an slxdeveloper.com member who asked a question about how to turn the forum daily digest e-mail option off since he subscribes to the forum RSS feed to be notified of new posts. So, I thought it would be a good idea for a refresher to post on the site (Besides, Lane my reply to you came back as non-deliverable "no such user" from your e-mail server).

There are a few different options for e-mail notifications from the slxdeveloper.com site.

1) Newsletter Subscription. This is a periodical e-mail that is sent out with some news about the site, new features added, articles added, new surveys, general community info for site members, etc. This can be turned on or off in your profile. Look for the checkbox option titled "Do you wish to be notified of updates via the slxdeveloper.com newsletter?". This option will allow you to turn this on/off.

2) Forum Digest E-mails. The forum digest e-mail is a daily e-mail sent out each night outlining the new forum posts for that day. This makes it nice to get a overview of what is going on in the forums and see if there are any threads of interest for you without really needing to follow the threads throughout the day. This can be turned on or off in your profile. Look for the checkbox option titled "Do you wish to be notified of any new forum posts via the slxdeveloper.com Daily Forum Digest?". This option will allow you to turn this on/off.

3) Forum RSS Feed. Lastly, the forum posts are all accessible via an RSS feed. You can subscribe to this RSS feed in your RSS tool of choice, such as GreatNews (my preference), RSS Bandit, IE7, Outlook 2007, and many others. There is no option in your profile for this, you just add a subscription to the feed in your reader of choice. The Forum RSS feed URL is: http://www.slxdeveloper.com/forumrss.aspx The Forum RSS option was added from a request by the community. I didn't know how useful it would really be, but I've come to rely on it heavily. I don't even go to the forums any more except to reply or post. Reading the forums is all done in my RSS reader now.

4) Forum Reply notifications. When you post in the forums, there is an option that says "Notifiy me when someone replies to this post". This option will cause an e-mail to be sent to you when someone replies to your post. The part I don't like about this feature is that it only sends you the notification if someone clicks the "reply" link on your post. If someone else adds to the thread by replying to someone else then you don't get the notification . You can turn this on/off my returning and editing the post to uncheck the box.

5) Article Comment notifications. Each article has a checkbox you can check to receive notification of comments on that article. This checkbox is labled "Notify me when someone comments on this article". To turn this on or off you can visit the page with the article in question and check/uncheck the box below the article. If you comment on the article this will be checked for you after posting the comment (you can then turn it off if you want)

Well, that is how it all works now. I've mentioned before about the new slxdev v2 that is in the works, things will be much different there, but for now I think these are working nicely.

Let me know if there are additional questions!

Interesting the email failed - fat fingers probably.
My profile is setup correctly according to this, its just the daily summaries keep coming.

Hi Lane,

It looks like you have two accounts created. I've deleted the second one (which was the first one created) and left the one that looks like you've been logging in under. You should be all set now.

Just setup the RSS feed in my Outlook 2007. My usual MO was to get the digest and open a tab for each thread I was interested in. I've tried RSS for some other things and usually don't go back to it very often but that was just as live links in FF. We'll see how I adjust to the Outlook 2007 way...
