Hi All,

Thought it best to ask advice on this before trying it.....

A sales process of ours in 7.2 LAN became obselete. We were not sure if changing the stages & steps etc on this sales process would affect the opportunities it is currently attached to (which we dont want to happen) so we created a version 2 of the same process and told users NOT to use the old version from that point forward.

But of course they are still using the old one when creating new opportunities!! So if we were to un-release or delete the old sales process would it affect opportunities it is already attached to?? And also the same question if we had amended the orignal rather than creating a new one (should this situation come up again in the future).

Thanks all.

Am fairly certain that changing horses in the middle of the stream is not allowed. the process gets streamed out into an XML file and then stored into the opportunity tables when the process is 'initiated'. I recall that the all of the stages/steps are stored at that point, simply not visible depending on what stages/steps have been completed\where you are at.

So there's no 'changing' the process for existing opportunities.

what happens if you 'inactive' an existing process, can't the user still run existing opportunities with the 'old' process and NOT add an opportunity with the inactive process?

Anyway, we went with our own workflow management system because of issues with sales process such as this.....

RJ is correct.

Modifying the Definition of the Sales Process doesn't modify those currently in place. Whenever a Process is attached to an opportunity, the content of the Process (stored as XML on the Plugin table) is built into the SALESPROCESSAUDIT table.

If you make minor changes (e.g. Stage or Step Name) you may be able to update them on this table (thus keeping reporting accurate), but anything more involved would be asking for trouble.

Never the less, this is more of a manual process. Create a Group for Opportunities that use such Process, and let the Managers decide which ones to migrate into a new process and which ones to keep on the existing path (e.g. Keep anything above 80%, change the process on all other Open Opps.)
