SLX Recordsets with varchar(max)Your last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

Hi All,

I've written a function recently that take the results of any SQL statement passed to it and exports it to a delimited text file.

However, if any of the fields in the results are nvarchar(max) then the statement "xyz = objRS.Fields(intCOLUMN_NO).Value" produces garbage.

I appreciate that the Database Manager does not let you create varchar(max) fields in the first place. They have been changed directly via SQL Server.

If I Cast(fieldname as varchar(8000)) within the SQL Statement, then it works perfectly. The problem is, a lot of the fields have data of more than 8000 characters in them which is why I was forced to make them "max".

Has anyone come across this before, and overcome it?

I can post the code up if you need it, if someone can let me know what the syntax is for posting formatted code.

Many thanks in advance!

Quick observation (I haven't done any testing on this):

You mentioned nvarchar(max), does it work with varchar(max)?

Maybe the problem comes from using Unicode fields, rather than the MAX size definition.
