I would like to default a specific text box to have the focus when I open a form, does anyone know how I'd do this?

Nice & easy!

For an unbound form

txtControl.SetFocus

for the form's AXFormOpen event.

For a bound form, same command in the AXFormChange event.

In properties set option TabOrder = 0
