Microsoft have announced that the next release of SQL Server ("Denali") will be the last to support OLEDB (although developers have 7 years to do this change). In what seems like a retrograde step to many - they are now reverting back to ODBC as the interface of choice when working with SQL Server. This is despite saying that ODBC was old technology and being deprecated only a few years ago! You can read more about this here.
