I created a view in the SLX database and am now trying to utilize it in an Excel 2007 spreadsheet. I am select Data | From Other Sources | From Data Connection Wizard. From there I am selecting "Other/Advanced", clicking Next, selecting the SalesLogix OLE DB Provider. I setup the server, database, user name and password. I also check the "Allow Saving Password" because if I didn't when I clicked finished it would complain even though the "Test Connection" would succeed. Now I click the OK button to finish with the Data Link Properties dialog.

No I am presented with the "Select Database and Table dialog. I choose the SalesLogix database, scroll down the list and highlight the view I've created. Click Next and I enter a description for the connection. I also check the "Save password in file" box. Although I have left this unchecked in other tests as well. The connection is now saved and the next dialog pops up.

The Import Data dialog is (I'm assuming) just asking me where to import the data (starting cell is A1) and how to view it - either as a table, PivotTable Report or PivotChart and PivotTable Report. I leave everything as default and click OK. I get the below message

"The query did not run, or the database table could not be opened."

This boggles my mind since everything I've done up to this point has connected to the database and I've checked save password at all prompts.

Has any one successfully done what I'm trying to do in Excel 2007? How did you do it? What step(s) am I missing. Seem s like this should be easy, but of course it's not.

Thanks,
John G.

I just tested connecting directly to the SalesLogix database through the native SQL Server provider and it worked without a hitch. So there's something going on with the SLX OLE DB provider I would think.

Ideas?

Thanks,
John G.

I've never managed to get Excel to talk to SLX through the provider - I always get the error you mention, either using views, tables or queries.

Don't use the SLX Provider.
