"Failed to connect to SLXServer" error during data link.Your last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

Has anyone seen an issue where the data link using the Saleslogix Provider fails sporadically?
Here is the set up, the SQL Server 2000 and SLX Server are on the same machine. Other machines can create connections fine and use the Saleslogix server. The problem occurs when you try to create a data link from the server to itself, for example launching the slx client from the server. It will throw a "Failed to connect to the SLX Server" message. The Saleslogix provider is definitely installed on this system.

I was able to narrow it down the SLXSystem.exe. I am not able to create a data link, if the SLXSystem.exe is running in the task manager. If I end the SLXSystem.exe task I'm able to create a data link and a connection. But soon after the client, admin, or architect will hang because the data link fails. It almost seems like some limit was reached.

This is definitely a weird behavior since SLXSystem.exe is launched when ever a Saleslogix application is ran.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank You.

Hi Sokha

Install SlxSystem.exe as a service and you should be ok.

To install SLXSystem.exe as a service
1. If currently running, close the current SLXSystem.exe using Task Manager
2. On the Start menu, click Run
3. In the Open box, type “C:\Program Files\SalesLogix\SLXSystem.exe” /install

Kind regards,

Steve

That was actually one of the first things we did when this issue came up. After a reboot of the system. The problem still existed. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sokha,

Have you checked the versions of SalesLogix Client? The clients that can connect may be on a different service pack level compared to the client you have installed on the server.

Are all the other clients able to maintain the connection to the SalesLogix server?

By the way which version of SalesLogix is this happening on?

Regards,

Steve

The Saleslogix version is 7.0.1 and all the other clients are running with the SP1 upgrade and able to maintain a connection. I'm going to try and just reinstall the server.

Hi Sokha,

This is from the SalesLogix Support Site:

Possible Resolution 1:
Delete and recreate the database and datalink connections. For more information see, How to delete and recreate the datalink and database connections.

Possible Resolution 2:
Verify Windows Firewall is set to allow SLXSystem.exe as an allowed Exception. If not, select to allow it and reboot the machine.

Possible Resolution 3:
Restart the SalesLogix services. For more information see, How to stop and restart the SalesLogix services.

Possible Resolution 4:
Add Server IP address to the system32 host file since DNS is not being used.

Note: Refer to Microsoft's Knowledge Base for information on updating Windows System32 host files.

Possible Resolution 5:
Uninstall and reinstall SalesLogix. For more information see, How to uninstall and reinstall SalesLogix.

Possible Resolution 6:
Reboot the computer(s) experiencing this error.

Possible Resolution 7:
Check the version of the executables for SalesLogix and the bundles that are installed. The version map is available on Support Online for more information as to what version of executables are for which version of SalesLogix.

Possible Resolution 8:
Check network connectivity on the effected workstation. The error can be recieved with a network failure or a failing NIC (network adapter) causes a workstation to be isolated from the client's network.

Possible Resolution 9:
Start the COM+ Objects. For more information, see How to start and stop COM+ Objects.

Regards,

Steve

Does anyone know of any possible Group Policy that can prevent access to the Saleslogix provider? The issue that I'm experiencing seems to be very sporadic.

Hi Sokha,
I am experiencing a similar situation on a V7.01 DB. I have the SLX OLE Provider installed on the SQL Server2000 server to allow SW runnig on the SQL Server can talk to SalesLogix.

It feels like it might be a resource and timing issue. Do you have any ideas?

I found an interesting article about the SLXSystem. I notice that my SLX box was throwing the event log "W-CBMediator request timed out". Coincidentally, the only result is SLX based and very similar to what I'm experiencing. Now, my system is working thus far. But I will try this article's solution if it goes down again.

Google : "W-CBMediator request timed out"

I've been getting a similar error after an upgrade from 6.2.2 to 7.2.1

All the desktops upgraded fine, but so far three of the laptops (not running remotes, just normal network client) have had issues with not being able to connect to the server. The client gets an error after a few seconds, with the W-CBMediator error logged in the Event Log.

The error on the clients is
"Database login failed: Failed to connect to SLXServer. Check if server is running and is compatible with the current provider version”

Did you try this connecting directly to the Internet using and Ethernet cable. I would also check to see if the user is logging on as part of the domain and not the "THIS MACHINE" option. Other then that the next thing I will try is the SLX Delay timeout registry setting.

Try this link :

Hi Steve,

The ' Possible Resolution 2 ' worked for me. Thank you for the post.
