I get the following error message on login when I set a user (i.e., barb in the eval DB) to have a password with an asterisk (*) in it, like "te*t":

"The following HTTP status error was reported in THHTPRequestThread.Execute: Internal Server Error".

The error also shows up in a few other places as well, but logon is the most obvious.

The obvious workaround is tell the users to not have special characters in their password, but when reporting it, Sage said they can't reproduce the error. I've made it happen on an eval DB as well as my customers DB.

Would someone else mind validating on an eval DB if they can get this to happen (or not)? I'm more curious if it's something with our test server or SLX.

Thanks,

Jeff

I just set a user's password to "steve*z" in my 6.2.4 database and was able to logon without a hitch.

What version is your database?

Frank,

First, thanks for taking the time to test that.

After seeing you reply, I tested it on my laptop which has a 6.2.4 install/database, and I got the same error. It got me thinking either I'm installing it wrong, but after doing this 5-6 years, I'm pretty comfortable that I've gotten it right. My thoughts then went to external things - server configuration and other parameters that could be different from system to system. I finally figured it out.

I'm guessing that when you log in, the "Enable ActiveMail (requires ActiveX)" option is unchecked (the default). I, however, usually do have it checked and my customer defnitely does, as that was customized to default that way. I can cause it to happen by having that checked and then prevent it by logging in with the option unchecked.

I'm pretty sure that's it. If you feel like trying it (no worries if you don't), I'd be curious to know what happens. At least I can get it to happen at will and let Sage know what I've found. Perhaps they can reproduce it.

Thanks again.

Jeff

Jeff,
Indeed I did not have the "Enable ActiveMail (requires ActiveX)" option checked when I did my test. I just checked it and I get the same error that you reported.

Jeff:

We are able to consistently reproduce this problem.

As a bit of background, we had received a support ticket from a customer complaining about this problem. We had kind of dismissed it, but then last night I read your post.

This morning I asked the Support engineer to test it on our UAT system. With the "*" on the password we got the error, without it we work fine.

We are running SLX Web 6.2.4 with an early version of Hotfix 2. We are going to advise our customer to avoid asteriks on the Passwords and will submit it to Sage as a defect.

Frank & Raul,

Thanks for taking the time to test this. I emailed the tech support rep we've been dealing with at Sage last night after I posted and he has submitted it for review as a defect.

Thanks again!
