Using Web Client 7.5.1 -

We use the Syncserver to run agents for reports and some scripts nightly. However, since we're only using web - no lan and no need to sync, Syncserver is otherwise not needed. Can the Syncserver service that generates the TEF files be safely disabled/turned off and, if so, how?

Caveat: we may implement Intellisync at some point - does that require Syncserver?

Thanks,
Doug

You can leave the sync server running and it won't generate TEFs as long as your users are not set up as remote users - check in SLX Administrator.

As there's no need for sync in your set-up, maybe you could just use scheduled SQL Agent jobs and not worry about the sync server ...

To turn the sync server off, just find the server that is running the sync server (too many 'server' references here, sorry!) and check your SLX services. There will be one called sync server (or similar). You can stop this and set it to manual so that it does not restart on server reboot.

Intellisync is independent of the sync server.

Thanks for the reply Phil. Just need a little clarification on a couple of points.

1. I mis-spoke in using the term "TEF file" - the saleslogix server generates tons of files in the WGLOGS folder when syncserver is installed and running. Currently we just delete these files periodically since we never run a sync cycle to flush them out. Is it enough to stop the syncserver service to prevent these files from being generated? My belief has been that if syncserver is installed but not running, saleslogix server will complain.

2. Can SQL Agent jobs run crystal reports the way Syncserver does? I've not tried to use SQL Agent jobs for this kind of thing before.

Thanks Doug

1) As far as I can think, you will have no problems if you turn off the sync server. The SLX server does not care. Deinstalling the damn thing would seem like a good idea, if you can crack the following ....
2) I honestly don't know for certain, but someone else here must. I would be surprised if you could not make this work, given a little R&D. Maybe you should create another thread: "How do I execute Crystal reports using a scheduled SQL Agent job?" or similar.

Phil

PS files in WGLogs are created by your SLX clients, not by the sync server ....
