Auto increment alphanumeric field
Posted: 03 Sep 09 12:30 PM
Is there an easy way to autoincrement alphanumeric characters - like A to B, B to C etc.? My requirement is actually that simple but I am not sure how to approach this.. thanks

Got it - here is a rough example of the seed
int i = 98; // initialize i to the char value of 'a'
string prfx = "";
TextBox1.Text=(prfx + Convert.ToChar(i));

You have to do this character by character"
In SQL:
SELECT CHAR(ASCII('A') + 1) -- This will return B
In C#:
char src = 'B'; // Notice I am not using a String, but a character (thus the single quotes used as delimiter)
int val = Convert.ToInt32(src);
val++;
char res = Convert.ToChar(val); //res will be equal to C
