Exchange Link in 7.5 Web
Posted: 24 Sep 09 5:24 AM

I've not got any experience using Exchange Link in web, and while I'm looking for relevant documentation currently, I'm moderately cautious of the fact a search on 'Exchange Link' in this forum has no results; perhaps someone could save me some time and state whether Exchange Link even works in 7.5 web? If so, I would be grateful to be pointed in the direction of docs/blogs/threads explaining what can or can't be done with it. The issue I've been asked to address is that a customer with Exchange Link can't see Outlook Contacts in the 'New Activity - Add Members' dialog; my inclination is that there's no implementation to do this anyway?
Thanks,
Alec D |

Alec:
ExchangeLink is a Backend Synchronization engine that takes data from SalesLogix and Exchange and synchronizes across both environments. It does not include any customizations on the Front end.
The out of the box functionality for SalesLogix Web, the Add Members tab relates to SLX Users (not even SLX Contacts).
Now, the functionality that you may be looking for is found on the Windows client (not sure if it is on the Web Client), and it is called "Advance Outlook Integration". When you use the Advance Outlook integration on the Windows Client, the Members tab gets replaced with the "Scheduling" tab from Outlook and you can then add anyone from your Outlook Address books into your activity.
With that in mind, what you may need to instruct your users is to manage their activities from Outlook, thus having that ability whenever they have that need, and then just let Exchange Link synchronize it back into SalesLogix. |

Alec,
Exchange Link does work with SalesLogix 7.5 web.
The other issue you note regarding members not show sounds to me like it has to do with the contacts you are syncing from Outlook/Exchange not being users in SalesLogix. While non-SalesLogix users can be added as attendees, only SLX users will show in the members tab.
Please feel free to contact me directly at scott.durgan@sage.com for more information/documentation on Exchange Link.
Thanks, Scott |

Thanks Raul and Scott. This makes a lot more sense now I understand the difference between EL and AOI, and I've relayed this clarification to the customer. As far as I can tell, AOI doesn't have an affect on the Web, at least the Members tab is still there even though it's replaced in the LAN.
Thanks again to you both |

We are on versin 7.5.2 Web.
We have had a few issues with Exchange Link. The recent one being it does not sync contacts from Saleslogix into Outlook.
What I notice is that we have 6206 contacts in Saleslogix whereas only 5134 is showing up in Outlook address book. The Exchange Link Service is running properly and we have also restarted.
The other issue being every few days we have to keep installing the exchange CDO, as SalesLogix crashes and the only fix for it is to uninstall exchange CDO and then reinstall it and it starts to work again….
Any advice will be really helpful.
Thanks
