Group viewer not retaining current group

Hi all.
I have a curious problem with the group viewer...
It works as expected for every main view in my installation (including custom ones), but not for the contact view.
The problem is that if I clik on a contact from the list view, as soon as the detail view opens, the group viewer tasklet is empty (except for the current contact) and the group navigator control shows "1 of 0" as the contact index inside the current group (instead of retaining the current group, showing something like "21 of 1234").
If I switch back to list view, I find myself in the lookup results tab, showing only one contact (the one previously clicked).
It's as if the group list is lost as soon as I open a single contact.
Anyone experienced this? What could be the cause? Group corruption, maybe? How could I try to fix it?
The SLX version is 7.5.0 AND 7.5.2 beta. Please note that as soon as I upgraded (on a test server) from 7.5.0 to .2 the problem seemed to disappear (the group viewer worked for contacts too), but after a while it came back. Dho! (this just to point out I don't think it's a configuration problem)
