Here is problem...in the LAN client, we have defined lots of groups for our opportunities. In most of these groups, the "Description" field is not used, as we use some custom fields that are more relevant (there is a custom "project code" field that is always there). This worked fine in the LAN client, as the whole line was linked to the record. In web (7.5.1 with various hotfixes), this does not work so well. It is nice that the web system will link directly to the various component entities from the group listing, but if you don't have certain main fields (Description in the case of an Opportunity), then there will be no link to the opportunity record. There is a new attribute when editing a group in the web client called "Entity Linked". Checking that on the project code field for a group allowed me to link to to the record (in a round-about way...the project code is in an extended entity called opp_info, and the linking was hard coded to send it to a opp_info.aspx file that did not exist...so now that file exists and just redirects to opportunity.aspx). So the problem now is that I need to get that "Entity Linked" field checked for all the applicable groups. There are a couple of problems with this:
1. There are a few hundred groups...which would not be much of a problem if I could edit them all as one user.
2. It seems that the web system only allows the owner of a group to edit it (not admin, unless admin owns), so I would have to log in as each user to edit the ones they own.
3. The Entity Linked field is not available in the LAN client, so I can't edit it there.

So my questions are as follows:
Anyone know an easier way to edit these groups? I've looked into exporting the data from the plugins table and doing some hex editing on it, but it doesn't seem consistent enough to make that practical.

Am I right in thinking that groups cannot be edited in the web system by anyone other than the group owner?

When is Sage going to make the definition of these groups as nice friendly XML files like everything else?

Yes, but it also applies to the Windows Client. You have to first take ownership of the Group.....

If you look into the Web Client, you will find out that through the GroupTranslator.dll you can indeed access the Group Definition as XML.

??...I'm not seeing that. I am able to edit groups that don't belong to me when logged in to the LAN client as Administrator...no taking ownership required (and the ownership is the same after I edit it).

Ahhh...I will check that out. Thanks!
