Before I go digging too far, does anyone know how to have the taskpane hidden by default. My users don't really use it, and want that real estate back (Web 7.5.1).

You should be able to disable or remove items from the task pane globally in the 'Tasklet' tab of your Portal Manager in App Architect.

Expand "Portal Manager" and double click on "Sage Sales Logix" to get to it.

Thanks, but that isn't exactly what I'm looking for. I don't want to permanently remove the items...just have that portion defaulted to collapsed. I have figured out that this is set on a per browser basis through a cookie, and I can force it by setting:
ys-center_panel_east=o%3Acollapsed%3Db%253A1
And I have that working by setting that value in the login.aspx....unfortunately we use the windows integrated login, and I'm not sure where the best place it to put the code in that.

Your best bet might be to add it to base.master which is the page that all smartparts are inherited from. Another option is to create a module to do it and add it to your portal so it will fire for every page.

I thought about adding it to base.master, but then figured out that I could add it to Windows.aspx.cs so it just gets them at the point of entry.

HttpContext.Current.Response.Cookies["ys-center_panel_east"].Value = "o%3Acollapsed%3Db%253A1";
