SLX Web Architecture - Security

As far as I know, many companies are providing access to their SLX web solutions via an intranet-only solution. That is, their users have to log in via a corporate VPN first. This seems like a very sensible idea to me, but a client of mine is interested in exploring the idea of having his SLX web solution open to the Internet. Other people must have done this successfully - what security measures did you put in place to make it difficult to hack?

The most common requirement we specify is to use a VPN, so have the VPN take care of authentication and security.
Obviously if they want access via any PC (i.e. they cant install the VPN software) then the next level we recommend is RSA type authentication (give users a key fob where they need to enter an encrypted key to get passed the first level of security). It is easy to implement but obviosuly there is a software and hardware cost, especially if there are a lot of users.
Lastly, if you are going for "straight" to the web you beter make sure their passwords are damn strong!! Seriously though, I wouldnt recommend putting it straight on the web without at least RSA (or equivalent) in the way.

| I've used the rsa solution befroe but have little idea on the cost. Have any idea what i should be concidering for a 25 user rsa setup if i placed it in the cloud for example. Is there a vendor you'd recommend in the us reply directly if you prefer. |
