Hi Everyone,

I'm working on a customer where they are experiencing awful system performance in the web client (SLX 7.5.2, no hotfixes applied). They have 2 big web servers and a big app server box (12Gb RAM, 8 processors each box) running against Oracle 10g (again, on a big, big box). They may have around 100 users connected to the web servers, and say 50 more connected through the lan client, all at the same time.

The "All Accounts", "All Contacts" and "All Opportunities" groups take ages to load. We're talking more than a minute here. While investigating with their DBA, it appears Oracle is ignoring all indexes and using full table scans instead, which might explain the terrible performance we're seeing. Have you had similar issues? Any tips on how to approach such a problem, or how to solve it?

Any hints or tips would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like statistics need to be updated in Oracle.  If stats think the tables are empty or nearly eampty, the query optimizer will choose a full scan as that is more efficient.  The solution is to have the DBAs update statistics on all tables in the DB.
