However much I read the Implementation Guide, I always find the area of folder permissions a little confusing, so I tend to be generous with permissions to make sure that things work

But I think that I may have gone a bit too far in this case. We have a client which has discovered that (when logged in to the LAN client) they can open, modify and save Library documents - thereby updating the originals. After I told them that Library documents could be amended only via using the Administrator client, this does not make me look good.

Is the solution to give all SLX users read-only access to the Library folders, with a special SLX_Librarians group having full control?

Thanks
Phil

I have never worked with the Library, but since it appears you can't control much. I guess the roles just determine if a user can change the listing in the library, but roles don't determine an individual's access privileges to the document. My guess is that you are on to something with the folder permissions.

I'd be interesting in knowing how you tackle this - sorry I can't be of more help.

Phil,

The library security is controlled by NTFS/share permissions. Your proposed solution would be best.

Thank you both for your input - great to have professional back-up on these things. I have advised the client accordingly.
