Way, way back when we first started using SLX (it was 6.0) we initially tried syncing contacts between Outlook and SLX. At the time it seemed to create problems. But I've been asked several times recently if there is a way to put an Outlook contact into SLX. I think this can be done if Intellisync were setup to synchronize Outlook contacts.

Just to give you the whole story, a rep has contacts in his Outlook address book that are not in SLX. The rep wants to put these contacts in SLX - without having to type them of course.

What I think has to be done is to create a category in Outlook called 'SyncSalesLogix' and assign that category to the Outlook contact. Then modify the Intellisync settings so that it synchronizes contacts (currently its set to export contacts from SLX only). Then tell Intellisync to syncronize contacts and 'TA-DA!', Outlook contacts appear in SLX.

Does this sound right? Does it work? Is this the best way to do this? Caveats? Too many questions?

Thanks,
John G.

John,

We have a couple of clients using it. Be aware that Intellisync does not check for duplicates, it just inserts.

If the Outlook user does the wrong thing they can easily insert tons of accounts and contacts in SalesLogix that are duplicate.

I advise you to test this out and become the expert before you roll it out.

I agree completely... Which is why we turned this off in the beginning. All IntelliSync is setup to do now is export contacts from SLX to Outlook... NO importing.

Having spoken with SLX support I did find out that we needed to download the latest feature pack for IntelliSync and an update. Its only slightly different. But I was also told that another product is going to be used in 7.0. I think we'll wait for 7.0 and the new Outlook sync rather than installing the new feature pack. No need to teach something that will only have to be retaught when the new version comes along.

If anything, might just install IntelliSync for this one rep after I've tested it.

Thanks!

We have implemented the latest feature pack for IntelliSync. It does fix some of the problems. It is worth the effort.
