Invalid Access to Memory Location

fiogf49gjkf0d SLX 6.2SP4 + HF1, 3, 4, and 5 WinXPSP2, all current hotfixes except timezone hotfix
I have one workstation that today has decided that it doesn't like SalesLogix anymore. All other workstations are running fine and able to get into the SLX client, however on this one machine, attempting to log in (or to add/edit defined connections) results in an alert box with the text: "Invalid access to memory location". I have tried uninstalling/rebooting/reinstalling SLX on the machine, as well as various stock troubleshooting steps (i.e. running CHKDSK, full antivirus/antispyware scans, clearing temp. files, re-registering DLL's, etc. etc.) but nothing I do seems to alleviate the problem. It happens regardless of what user is logged in to Windows. No errors are being logged in the System Event Log. Interestingly, I can run the SLXProfiler just fine, since it doesn't seem to log in to anything - however it doesn't have anything to monitor. Just for fun, I even manually ran SLXSystem.exe to see what would happen - it popped up a status window showing that it was beginning to listen to client requests on port 14923 and that there were no clients connected, but showed no activity whatsoever when trying to launch the SLX Client while it was running (the same is true in the Profiler). Has anyone run into this before? Any suggestions on what to do to troubleshoot this? Many many thanks in advance!

fiogf49gjkf0d Check the actual version of the MSDART.DLL,
I have seen times when MDAC doesn't update the DLL properly.. Compare to the version of one on a machine that is working.. |

fiogf49gjkf0d I double-checked MSDART.DLL as you said, but it was correct... however, that led me down the path of checking out the rest of the MDAC installation using Microsoft's ComponentChecker utility, and I found a few other corrupted DLL's. Re-installing MDAC (right-click on %systemroot%\inf\mdac.inf, click "Install", follow the bouncing ball) fixed the problem. Muchas gracias for pointing me in the right direction RJ - you da man! |
