Our US Sales Representative is connect the SLX server thru VPN and accessing the SLX client for a report.
However since last 1 week, though she is able to connect the server ,but when logging to SLX client she get the following error
"Database login fails. Failed to connect to SLXServer. Check if the server is running and is compatible with the current provider version".

She also has a local SLX remote Client. Her local clent also gets screwed up and she is unable to login into SLX client after accessing the server using VPN.
Only upon restarting her laptop, she is able to login into her local SLX Client

Can any body shed light on this strange phenomena??

Shed some light, no...but I can keep you company by sitting in the dark with you.

I have experienced the same issue while trying to log onto the client through VPN. Used to work in the past, but first gave me this error 2-3 weeks back. I recieve the same error.

SLX 7.0.1 HF1&2
SQL Server 2005

Thanks for any help anyone could provide.

All,

Sometimes after laptops go into hibernation/standby and come back up the connectivity to MSDE is lost, causing the error you mentioned. A simple reboot refreshes the local MSDE connections and the user should be able to login.

Otherwise:
-Check users folder security to the following folder: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL, make sure the user has access to this directory. THis can keep the MSDE service from running...
-Make sure MSDE service is started and running - set to automatic start.
