Windows Authentication Does Not Work in Outlook
Posted: 24 May 07 12:05 PM

fiogf49gjkf0d We recently converted most of our users over to Windows authentication. Now, when they open the SalesLogix Windows client, the login prompt is no longer displayed. However, when they open Outlook, the login prompt is still displayed. Is there any way to make SalesLogix windows authentication work with Outlook? |

The login you see from Outlook is a login for IntelliSync actually. I don't see IntelliSync updating its product to use NT Authentication to 3rd party products.
This is the only place where the SalesLogix login actually has to be known when NT Authentication is being used in SLX. Your users will have to do the IntelliSync login and click the 'Auto Login' checkbox to save the login information. This works, but the problem is when things change in the Outlook environment. This can cause the IntelliSync login to appear.
Many times there will have weeks, even months after having checked the 'Auto Login' box. By that time the user has no clue what the login is for, why its appearing and worse yet.. doesn't know what the password is! They'll think its their network login which will not work and then they'll click Cancel because they can't login. This is where things start to get messed up because IntelliSync is not connecting to SLX. A week later they'll complain about things not appearing in Outlook/SLX. They will not make the connection between the login and this. Believe me - this is from experience.
There's no easy answer to this. The only thing you can do is be aware of the signs of this happening. And try to educate the user that its the SalesLogix IntelliSync login that is being asked for. Not their NT login. Most of the time they will not remember the SalesLogix password so you'll have to change the SLX password via Administrator for them.
There's not fail-safe method to any of this. Just something that has to be dealt with occassionally.
It would be nice for SLX to update the Outlook connector in someway (get rid of IntelliSync?) so this does not happen. Its really nice having NT Authentication to get into SLX, just this IntelliSync part is the only issue when it is turned on.

Hi John
Actually, it isn't - it's the login for the SLX Address Book that requires a connection to SLX in order to add SLX groups, resolving emails, lookups to teams, users etc.
That piece is under SLX control - they just missed it !
Thx Mike
