Thoughts and Ideas...
Posted: 05 Jun 07 2:40 PM
Currently we have two instances of SalesLogix within our company.
Group A has an entire SLX setup, sync server own database etc.
Group B used to belong in the Group A database and choose to splinter off and create their own instance, complete with separate licenses etc. So we took a backup copy of Group A's Database, Changed licenses to be Group B's licenses, and now they have been using the application separately for about 1.5 years...
Now with version 7 we can put security to the Notes table they are thinking of migrating back to a single database.
Anyone have a thought on How to accomplish this..?
1. I am worried that the accountId's in A might be the same as in B but they are not the same account.
2. How do I move the entire database, Notes, History, accounts, contacts, Opportunities, Attachments etc.. from one to the other.
3. Might it be better to create a New database and bring in the data from the other two into the new one..?
This is mostly exploratory right now

I did something similar a while back in 6.2. The approach I took was to create a new database, add the licenses, create the user profiles, then created 2 custom imports to import accounts, contacts, history, activity, and business data into the new database.
This approach worked well for me.

I wrote a custom program using VB6. I imported opportunities as well as lots of custom business data.
You could use an import tool like Migrate (from Scribe) or Inaport (from Inaplex). Ryan Farley also has an import tool.
