Account Managers that aren't Saleslogix usersYour last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

I have a client that has outside sales reps that can be the account manager for an account but they will not have a saleslogix user license. Is there a way to use the standard account manager lookup and field for non saleslogix users? Besides purchasing one concurrent license to add all of the outside account managers or scripting? Seems like someone might have come across this already?

The concurrent license is a good idea.

You can...
1. Create a user profile for the sales reps
2. Retire the sales reps user profiles
3. customize the account manager lookup so you are not limited to active users.

Frank - Thanks for the reply. Can you point me in the right direction to change the account manager lookup to also see retired users? I can't seem to find it.

You need to modify the properties of the AccountManager LinkEdit. The standard "LookupMode" the special "lmuser" lookup.

What I do is..
- create or edit the UserInfo:Lastname lookup

Then modify the AccontManger Linkedit oblject by...
- change the "LookupMode" to "lmtable"
- set the "LookupMainTable" to "UserInfo"
- set set "Lookup" to use the "(Userinfo:Lastname") lookup.

What about creating a user then immediately retiring them? AccountManagerID is merely a link to an existing userid, retired or otherwise. Of course it'll seem silly to keep accounts linked to retired users from a data integrity standpoint but a concurrent user license is a waste of money if no one is actively using it.

This is what I suggested in my first post. The issue is that the default AccountManager LinkEdit object does not list retired users.

Dur, my bad, I thought you meant to keep the concurrent license active. I saw that and apparently didn't register the rest of your post. Any available license would do though, as you're really just looking to create the userid correctly.

They might also wish to only show that one retired user, especially if they have a lot of them. It's pretty trivial to add that condition to the linkedit control.
