Users logging off automaticallyYour last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

Hi All,

A very unusual thing is happening.
When either of two particular users log off from SalesLogix, it forces the rest of the users to automatically log off.
SLX v6.2.6
Can anyone provide any pointers to this... ??
TIA.

Richa.

Do the other users get a message as they are 'logged out' - if so, what is it?

Or is the application just terminated with no message? Can the users log back in? Or do they have to wait for the 'special' users to log back in?

Is there anything special about the two users? Eg in terms of their security rights? Are they domain admins, local admins, etc - that the others are not?

Hi Phil,

The users get either of the messages before being kicked out -

- An error occured executing active form script(Contact:Notes-History)
Error in include script(SYSTEM:NOTES HISTORY COMMON) Could not establish connection with SLXServer
Check server is running and port is correct at line 493,char 5.

- An error occured executing active script(SYSTEM:OnCompletedActivity)
The connection cannot be used to perform this operation.
It is either closed or invalid in this context at line 134, char 5.

The users can log in back without wiating for the 'two' users to login back.

The users do not have any administrative roles assigned to them. they are like all other normal users.

A "Could not establish connection with SLXServer" is normally an indication that there is a network issue - a connectivity issue to the database server. The "It is either closed or invalid" is also indicative of some kind of connectivity issue to the database server.

Do you have any custom scripts that run when a user logs off?

Are you sure ALL users who have SLX open are experiencing the same symptoms at the same time?

How many users do you have and how many are logged in when this happens?

Is there any 'special' security setup on the database server?

Are these users accessing SLX from individual workstations or is it through a CITRIX type box?

Is the database server located on the same domain as the users?

Hi John,

Plz find answers to ur queries :

- There are no custom scripts that run when a user logs off.

- Yes, all the users who're logged in at that time are experiencing this.

- There are around 46 users and almost all are logged in when this happens.

- Can you please elaborate as to what you mean by 'special' security setup on the database server...??

- Users are accessing SLX through a Citrix type box.

- No, the users are not located on the same server as DB server.

The issue is coming up daily....

Thanks,
Richa.

Have you got the SLXServer component running as a service on the Citrix box?

Oops, I meant SLXSystem.

Hi Phil,

There is no SLX system service running.
However, SLX speed search service is there, but that is disabled.

When working in a TS / Citrix environment, you need to run SLXSystem.exe as a service - how to do this is described in the documentation (somewhere / and elsewhere on this site).

Ok.. this is now starting to make a little more sense. I think we all were thinking you had 46 users using the Client from individual workstations on a LAN.

Check the documentation on setting up SLXSystem.exe as a service on the box users are logging into.

Also, you stated,
Users are accessing SLX through a Citrix type box.
You said type box which to me sounds like its not CITRIX. Can you clarify if its a true CITRIX box or something else?

In the document 'Applying Service Pack 6 for SalesLogix Version 6.2' setting up SLXSystem.exe as a service is described in Task 37.

Task 37 Details

The SLXSystem service starts and stops when connections are created. If necessary, you can set the service to
remain open for a set amount of time before shutting down. To set a specific amount of time for the service to remain
open, add the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SalesLogix\ShutdownDelay(DWORD). The key
accepts values 1 through 1440, where the value indicates the number of minutes the service will run before shutting
down (after it detects no activity). Setting the value to 0 indicates the service never shuts down.
By default, the SLXSystem.exe service is set to Automatic with a registry value of 0 so that it is always on.

To install SLXSystem.exe as a service
1 If currently running, close the current SLXSystem.exe using Task Manager.
2 On the Start menu, click Run.
3 In the Open box, type “C:\Program Files\SalesLogix\SLXSystem.exe” /install.
Use the “C:\Program Files\SalesLogix\SLXSystem.exe” /uninstall command to remove the service.

There's a white paper out on TS/Citrix from Sage SalesLogix. You can download it from the SalesLogix Support site.
