Hi All,

Importing contact details into the SLX from an excel sheet -- Excel contains few columns which are of picklist type.

The values in the columns need to be validated against the values in the DB; should the validation be against the Text column in the Picklist table?

Should the entire text column in the Picklist table be checked for the existence of the value specified for each row in the picklist type column in the excel sheet or is there any other work around?

Thanks,
Richa

I would suggest if possible to do the cleanup before Importing the data if possible. This will also lead to less problems while loading + probably faster loading speed.

If you think about the Picklist table, it contains entries for all Picklists in the system, so a value may match against the table, but not be applicable for that field. (e.g. Acct. Status = Active is not a valid Opportunity Status on most Implementations).

You can load the data into a Temp SQL table, and then query each column doing a Distinct (or grouping it if you would like to get counts to establish relevance) so that you could establish what actual data you have on the table, then you should compare that against what values you are planning on having in the picklists. You may have somevalues to add to the picklist, and/or some values to replace on the data to make it consistent
