SalesLogix 7.0.1 on Vista

fiogf49gjkf0d Someone here is trying to install the client on Vista. It's not working, which had they told me beforehand I would have saved them the trouble.
Anyway... Is there anyway currently to install 7.0.1 on Vista? The last I remember, August was the earliest a new client would be available that worked on Vista.
Thanks, John G. |

Like a LOT of apps (I hear of a new one every day!) SalesLogix has components that Vista breaks. Even stripping back security, etc will not do it.. it's a total waste of time trying.
Right now the only scheduled support for Vista is v7.2. I've not heard of any plans for an SP for 6.2.x or 7.0.x for Vista support. However, If SP's are created, I'd expect them to be after teh 7.2 release.
BTW.. not a single clienmt of ours has any Vista interest. They are all concerned about all of teh stuff (not just SalesLogix) that is broken when Vista is installed. -- rjl |

We're running 7.0.1.1075 and I've just tried installing the client on a laptop running vista and it installed fine. The only (rather major) problem I've found so far is that any attempt to view Contacts locks up the client. Accounts and tickets work fine (complete with all of our customisations). Opportunities brings up some script errors and the sales dashboard also kills the client. The major problem from our point of view is that MSDE2000 is not supported on Vista, which means using Express 2005, but our database is running on SQL2000, so I'm hoping that it will be possible to create remote databases for 2005 whilst keeping our main server on 2000.
(and as for the rest of Vista, it's not _that_ bad, it's just XP with knobs on really) |

You can install it (on Vista).. always could.. but it just does not work.. crashes, etc as you have seen.. Just go to v7.2 and your problems will be over.. don't hold your breath for a 7.0.x Vista version..
In 7.2 you can go to SqlExpress and still use SQL2000 as the main db as long as: A - You put SQLexpress on the workstation B - Cut the remote db(s) ON the workstation.. not the server. It works the other way too.. you can use SQL2005 on the main and MSDE2k on the remote.. just "swap".
This is all released-supported.. in production os lots of systems... everywhere.

Unfortunately we upgraded from 6.2 up to 7 in the week that 7.2 was released, but our BP didn't feel they could take us straight to a version they hadn't had much experience with straight away, which is fair enough. Hopefully we'll make the next jump in the new year. |
