Quick question on cutting a remote office database
Posted: 07 Dec 07 1:00 PM
With SalesLogix version 7.2, can I cut a remote office database directly on SQL Server 2005 now, or do I still need to use a separate SQL Server 2000 instance?

Yes.. as long as the remote office db is:
A - sqlexpress (remember keep it to 10 users or less or you will have performance issues
or
B - SQL2005
Because the cut will NOT be compatable w/sql2000/MSDE and you will NOT be able to attache it.
Oh yes. Install MSDE on the Workstation.. cut there and it's.. yes.. sql2000/msde comatable!

Thanks RJL!
The remote office database server is SQL Server 2005, so I guess I am safe. I can't use MSDE anyway, because I have heard a few times that you can only create databases that are 2 gigs or less with it when cutting remotes, and my remote databases are 8-9 gigs in size. But since my remote office db server is 2005 - I get to ignore all that

Correct, this is a Microsoft [deliberate] limitation - for MSDE it was 2Gb and with SQL Express is now 4Gb - so, still wouldn't cut it
