Bandwidth standards for syncing remotes
Posted: 27 Mar 08 5:56 PM
Hi there, is anyone aware of any bandwidth standards for syncing remotes? We are getting additional bandwidth for our site and looking for any best practices, we have about 100 remote users?
Have you seen any benchmarks we can share?
Thanks!

Do what I do (and have several clients doing)..
A - put the ftp site on the ISP's server.
B - Follow GOOD practices in setting up MULTIPLE ftp synch transfer profiles
C - Run main synch on a 15 min service cycle...
You can do this w/HTTPS as well...

Item B:
It would be ideal to have an ftp synch profile PER User... but, you have to create each setup manyally.. and Sage SalesLogxi does not provide a tool to do this in "bulk". In fact, a lot of the stuff (for a synch Profile, etc..) is in blobs.. and not "Clear text" blobs either. So unless you have intimate knowledge of the guts of the meta data.. don't even think about building one... (but I did
SO, as a minimum.. create multiple profiles with no more than 5 remote users per profile.. and if you have Remote Office.. ONE RO per profile.
Now when I say individual profiles I also mean that each one has it's OWN OUTFILE/FAILED/INFILE directories... NOTE: Here's where there is a disagreement between some of us in teh partner community... some think a shared infile is ok.. I don't.. since when main synch runs it is also selecting files to transfer using the sitecode(s).. and it runs every profile anyway! I see seperate ones as an easier way to troubleshoot things as well..
.. minor commercial pitch... I developed an application called "SynchLogix" that is based on TaskCentre and does a lot of the work for you... (it was "un-veiled" at Summitt by The TaskCentre folks).. monitors synch, sends email reminders to remote to synch.. resets synch service when it gets into trouble (and it does...), etc.. Enough of that.. if interested.. contact me directly.
